Workshop on Engine Overhauling and Preventive Maintenance at OIST Bhopal 31 March, 2015



One day National workshop on ‘Engine Overhauling and Preventive Maintenance’ was organized by Department of Automobile Engineering, on 31 March, 2015.

The program commenced with traditional lighting of the lamp and invoking Goddess Saraswati. It was followed by welcome address by Prof. Prabhat K Prasad who briefed students regarding need for preventive maintenance in Automobiles and Engine Overhauling. .

Mr. Uday Paradkar, AGM, C.I. Hyundai Bhopal delivered the key note address. He explained to students, the latest engine overhauling techniques and preventive maintenance techniques used in Hyundai Vehicles. He also explained various types of Oils and Lubricants their viscosity grading their meanings, Synthetic Oils, Multi-grade Oils, Additives and oil savers, Coolants, all types of filters used nowadays. Mr. Uday Paradkar also threw light on latest Engines used by Hyundai Motors. He gave tips on maintenance of various electronic sensors used in the Modern Generation Vehicles, in general and Hyundai in particular. He explained the reasons of buckling of connecting rod, silencers getting red hot, ill effects of over filling engine oil and coolant. He concluded by explaining methods to improve efficiency and mileage by running engine at optimum rpm (revolutions per minute).

In the second half, experts from CI Hyundai showed the students, the various tools and SMT’s required for overhauling an engine. They also had a hands-on experience on use of these tools to disassemble and assemble the engine. Various engine components like Thermostat valve, Hydraulic Valve lifters, Intake manifold, Engine Mounting Pads, Pulley Belt etc were opened and shown to the students.

The workshop was huge success & a great learning experience in Engine overhauling and Preventive maintenance of vehicles for students as well as faculties. Dr V. K Sahu, Director, OIST, Bhopal and HOD Automobile, appreciated the workshop and emphasized that such workshops, frequently organized by the Institute, benefit the students.
