CE students of OIST Bhopal visit Railway steel Bridge over Betwa River near Vidisha




OIST Bhopal organized a full day Industrial visit for students of VI th semester Civil Engineering branch on 4th April’2017, to Railway steel Bridge over Betwa River near Vidisha.

The resource personnel, Mr. A.R. Khan, Executive Engineer (Bridges) and Mr. Ashok Kaushal,

Section Engineer (Bridges), guided the students. They demonstrated three railway lines and three different types of railway bridges (i.e. open web girder, composite plate girder and Pre -stressed concrete bridge), that are constructed over Betwa river, at Rangai, Vidisha.

The students were explained about the different parts of above bridges, design considerations, load transfer mechanism, design details of these bridges and different types of bridge bearings. Long welded rails (LWR), switches and guard rails were also explained to the students.

The students were benefitted a lot by this visit as design of steel structures and design of Railway bridges are part of their curriculum. Students would understand the structure, properly, by seeing the three dimension prototype of structure.
